How to make an image file smaller

  1. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP source images.
  2. Select WebP or JPG as the output format. Start with the default quality setting of 82%, then adjust based on the preview.
  3. If the image is larger than you need, set a smaller width. Reducing pixel dimensions can save more space than changing quality alone.
  4. Process the images, compare Original and Result, and check the output file size before saving.

JPG, WebP and PNG compared

WebP: adjustable quality and support for transparent backgrounds. A useful option for web images when your destination accepts the format.

JPG: adjustable quality for photographs and destinations that require JPEG. Transparent areas become white.

PNG: lossless output with transparency. The quality slider does not apply to PNG. Resizing can reduce file size, but converting a photo to PNG can make the file larger.

Can I compress an image to exactly 100 KB?

This tool does not target an exact file size. Lower quality, reduce dimensions, and process again until the displayed size meets your destination's limit. Check readability and detail after each change.

Why is the output sometimes larger?

A source may already be heavily compressed. Re-encoding at higher quality or switching to a lossless format can increase its size. Try a smaller width or a lower JPG/WebP quality setting.

How many files can I compress?

You can add up to 20 files, with a 20 MB per-file limit and a 100 MB batch limit. Input images above 32 megapixels are rejected to help limit browser memory use. The same settings apply to every file in the batch.

About processing and privacy

Image pixels are processed locally in your browser. Background removal downloads an AI model and runtime from IMG.LY on first use; that provider receives normal download requests, not your image files. The model download can be large and may take a few minutes. Keep this tab open while processing. There are no analytics or ads on this version. Files are cleared when you clear the batch or reload the page.
