How to remove a background
- Choose one or more JPG, PNG or WebP images. A clear subject with contrasting surroundings is a useful starting point.
- Keep Remove background enabled. Select Transparent for a cutout, or choose White, Charcoal or a custom canvas color.
- Click Process images. The first run downloads the AI model and runtime from IMG.LY; keep the tab open while it loads.
- Compare Original and Result. Save the PNG with Download image, or save completed files together with Download ZIP.
Transparent PNG or a solid background?
PNG preserves transparent pixels and is useful when placing a cutout over another design. WebP also supports transparency with an adjustable quality setting. JPG fills transparent areas with white, so choose it only when a solid background is suitable.
What to check before using the result
Inspect hair, fingers, glass and fine edges. Similar foreground and background colors can cause the model to remove part of the subject or retain unwanted areas. This tool does not include a manual brush for repairing the mask. For difficult images, use a different source photo or refine the result in an image editor.
Can I remove backgrounds from several images?
Yes. Add up to 20 images and the same settings apply to each. Processing runs one image at a time. Large images and slower devices take longer; Stop after current image preserves completed results.
Are my photos sent to an AI server?
No image upload API is used. The model runs in your browser. Your browser contacts IMG.LY to download the model and runtime, but your selected images are processed on your device.

About processing and privacy
Image pixels are processed locally in your browser. Background removal downloads an AI model and runtime from IMG.LY on first use; that provider receives normal download requests, not your image files. The model download can be large and may take a few minutes. Keep this tab open while processing. There are no analytics or ads on this version. Files are cleared when you clear the batch or reload the page.
